Bridport Leisure Centre
50 Years of Bridport Leisure Centre
This year we will be celebrating 50 years of
Bridport Leisure Centre!
The catalyst that led to the Leisure Centre we enjoy today, was the installation of the original squash courts back in 1975. These were constructed with financial assistance from squash club members and run by the Squash Club.
This led to the creation of Bridport and West Dorset Sports Trust Ltd also in 1975, which was registered as a charity, and the lease of the squash courts was granted to the trust.
The Trust with the help of Tony Palmer were instrumental in pushing forward the development of the site and continues to run Bridport Leisure Centre today, as a strictly non-profit making organisation.
Starting with the construction of the squash courts and birth of the Bridport and West Dorset Sports Trust, we will be celebrating each of the later developments; the addition of the dryside facilities, the rugby pavilion and the swimming pool through to the more recent refurbishment of the fitness suite.
If you have any memories you would like to share with us please do get in touch.
